ComeBack Mobility

The iOS Bluetooth layer behind FDA-cleared smart crutch tips.

After surgery, patients were missing their prescribed weight limits. I built the patient app’s Bluetooth layer: pairing, real-time weight-bearing charts, and the connectivity SDK.

Problem

Patients recovering from lower-limb surgery were putting too much or too little weight on the leg. The app had to stay connected to the crutch tips and show compliance without turning the phone into a clinical device.

What I did

I built the patient app’s Bluetooth layer and packaged it as a CocoaPod: custom and standard GATT, pairing, cane and crutches modes, and real-time weight-bearing charts. The doctor app and web dashboard were separate products.

  • 73.6%weight-bearing compliance, vs 21.1% in the control group
  • 84.25usability score
  • FDAcleared device, with peer-reviewed results in Brueilly et al. 2024

Compliance, usability, and regulatory figures are reported by the company and in the published study. I built the Bluetooth layer.
